Expander, a Business Unit of Nord-Lock Group, is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist for its operation in DeWitt for 2nd shift. We produce custom pivot solutions to customers across North and South America on a produce-to-order basis. This dynamic manufacturing environment is growing and is looking to hire collaborative co-workers who will help grow the company to a new level of production. Will work independently and as part of a team, at times with limited supervision. We are located in DeWitt, Iowa in a heated and air-conditioned facility with well-maintained equipment.
Relocation is not being offered for this role. Sponsorship is also not being offered for this role.
The primary objective of this position is to safely and accurately machine steel components, including axels, sleeves, washers, and fasteners, to engineering drawing specifications and required tolerances. The CNC Machinist is responsible for machine setup, programming, inspection, documentation, equipment care, and timely movement of complete orders through the production process while following the compliance with Expander Americas, Inc., safety procedures, and production requirements. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the tasks listed below.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Work Order Control
Use NAV24 to manage station workflow, confirm production priorities, and support completion of component orders by their scheduled due dates.
Review the production order, engineering drawing, routing, and NAV24 information before beginning work. Report missing or conflicting information to supervision, Engineering, or Quality before machining.
Verify the part number, revision, quantity, planned machine, and required material information before setup and production.
Upon completion of the order, accurately update the planned machine or next operation in NAV24 and place the order in the designated staging location.
Machine Setup, Programming & Operation
Verify that the Mazatrol program matches the correct part number and review all programmed dimensions for accuracy before machining.
Create, edit, or select the appropriate machining program to produce the part within drawing specifications and tolerances.
Set up the Mazak machine with the correct tooling, jaws, fixtures, inserts, offsets, and work holding required for the operation.
Use the established tooling check-out and check-in system to maintain accurate tooling inventory and accountability.
Follow machine-specific work instructions, setup sheets, operating procedures, guarding requirements, and training guidelines.
Monitor machine performance, tooling condition, chip control, coolant flow, and part quality throughout the production run. Stop the process and report abnormal conditions promptly.
Material Identification & Traceability
Verify that the material and components being machined match the production order, engineering drawing, material specification, and identification requirements.
Maintain material and part traceability throughout the machining process by keeping labels, lot numbers, and order documentation legible and associated with the correct material or parts.
Verify printed part labels and order documentation are accurate before releasing completed parts to the next operation.
Immediately report any discrepancy involving material identification, certifications, labels, drawings, or production requirements before continuing work.
Inspection & Quality Responsibilities
Complete a full dimensional inspection of the first piece to verify compliance with the engineering drawing and required tolerances.
Perform required in-process inspections at the specified frequency and accurately complete all inspection records.
Use properly calibrated measuring equipment and protect gauges and inspection tools from damage.
Identify, segregate, and report nonconforming material or parts in accordance with established quality procedures.
Operate efficiently while maintaining accuracy, minimizing scrap, and supporting continuous improvement in quality, productivity, and waste reduction.
Equipment, Tooling & Preventive Care
Perform required daily machine checks and routine operator maintenance in accordance with work instructions.
Maintain machinery, equipment, work holding, gauges, and tooling responsibly to prevent unplanned downtime, damage, loss, or unnecessary replacement.
Report machine, tooling, guarding, coolant, or safety-related deficiencies promptly to supervision.
Notify supervision when tooling, inserts, coolants, labels, inspection supplies, or other consumables require replenishment.
Housekeeping, Organization & Material Flow
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with 5S and housekeeping expectations.
Keep machinery, workstations, tooling areas, carts, floors, and staging locations free of dirt, metal chips, oil, grease, coolant, scrap, and personal debris.
Remove chips, burrs, coolant residue, and excess oil from completed parts before identification and staging for the next operation.
Ensure completed parts are correctly identified, assigned to the proper cart or container, and placed in the designated next-operation location.
Properly dispose of metal chips, scrap, used absorbents, and other waste in designated containers.
Quality, Environmental & Safety Responsibilities
Support the company's Quality and Environmental Objectives by following approved procedures, work instructions, and continuous improvement practices.
Understand and comply with the Company Management Policy and contribute to established quality, environmental, safety, and operational goals.
Maintain awareness of how individual work activities affect product quality, customer satisfaction, environmental performance, and workplace safety.
Participate in required quality, environmental, fire safety, emergency response, and safety training.
Follow requirements for machine guarding, personal protective equipment, lockout/tagout awareness, safe lifting, and material handling.
Handle, store, label, and dispose of oils, coolants, chemicals, and waste materials in accordance with company environmental procedures.
Prevent chemical spills through proper handling, storage, housekeeping, and container management. In the event of a spill, stop work when safe, protect personnel, and follow established reporting and spill-response procedures.
Know the location of applicable emergency equipment and follow established fire prevention, evacuation, and emergency response procedures.
Immediately report quality concerns, process deviations, equipment hazards, environmental hazards, near misses, unsafe conditions, spills, or incidents to supervision.
Comply with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, quality requirements, and environmental regulations.
General Expectations
Work effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Warehouse, and other team members to support safe and efficient operations.
Communicate production status, quality concerns, equipment issues, and material needs clearly and promptly.
Follow all company policies, procedures, and work instructions.
Perform other duties as assigned by management to support operational requirements.
Demonstrate consistent commitment to safety, quality, productivity, traceability, equipment care, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 1 year of CNC machining experience or equivalent successful experience in a similar technical position
Eligibility Requirements:
Willing and able to work 2nd shift(4pm-2:30am M-Th).
Willing and able to commute to work as scheduled.
Willing and able to safely operate a fork truck and overhead cranes.
Desired Charcteristics:
Mazak lathe programing experience
Analytical ability
Proficiency with reading and understanding technical drawings and documents.
